Women’s Volleyball Concludes Day Two of Muskingum Invitational

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (5-6) remained winless at the Muskingum Invitational, dropping contests to Muskingum (7-4) and John Carroll (7-4).

W&J 0, Muskingum 3 (11-25, 16-25, 25-19)
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) led the Presidents offensively with nine kills and two blocks against the host Fighting Muskies. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) had 19 assists and Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) led in digs with 21.

Battling to a 9-9 tie in the first set, the Fighting Muskies broke away with a 13-point run to take a 22-9 lead. Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) added two kills off sets from Moorhouse to close out the first set.

Muskingum created a 15-5 lead in the second set which was carried to their set two victory. Kills by Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette), Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Fetsko briefly jumpstarted the W&J offense down the stretch, to no avail.

The Presidents kept the third set within a three-point reach, falling 25-19 to close out the match.

W&J 0, John Carroll 3 (15-25, 20-25, 17-25)
The Presidents freshman outside hitter, Dagen, led the offense in their second match of the day with an eight-dig performance. Moorhouse added 20 assists to her days totals. Four Presidents tallied double-digit digs including Anna Watson (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) with 13, Moorhouse along with McFarland with 12 and Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) with 11.

Following the Blue Streaks early lead in the opening set, W&J cut the John Carroll lead to 13-11 through kills from Dagen and a block by Jacobs. The Blue Streaks then ripped off seven-consecutive points prior to taking the first set, 25-15.

W&J held an early 6-4 lead in the second set, 6-4, before entering a trading of lead changes. Anna Boikov (Wilmore, Ky./West Jessamine) logged a kill and assisted a block to help keep the Presidents within striking distance through the end of the second set.

W&J again worked to an early advantage, building an 8-3 lead to open the third set. The Blue Streaks flipped the script by entering a 10-1 run which carried John Carroll to their victory.

Fetsko and McFarland each were named to the Muskingum Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Women's Volleyball looks to rebound this Tuesday (Sept. 16) on the road as they open Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Bethany. The first set is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
