BETHANY, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team dropped its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener against the Bethany Bison, 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 22-25).
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) led the team offensively with 10 kills and contributed defensively with nine digs and one total block.
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 25 assists.
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) added a team high 21 digs.
In set one, Bethany gained control of the match early on and carried that lead to the finish for the 1-0 lead. Kills from
Anna Boikov (Wilmore, Ky./West Jessamine),
Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Fetsko kept the Presidents within striking distance, but to no avail.
The Presidents battled to a 10-9 lead to open the second before surrendering a 9-2 run which saw the Bison regain the lead for the remainder of the set.
The match was bookended with a 25-22 set loss for the Presidents. Each unit traded the lead down the stretch. Despite late kills from Fetsko and
Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), the Presidents succumbed to a three-set defeat.
W&J looks to recoup on Friday (Sept. 19) as they host Waynesburg University for the home opener at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
