Women’s Volleyball Rolls Yellow Jackets in Home Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball (6-7, 1-1) got back in the win column with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-14) sweep against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (1-11, 0-2) in their first game in the Salvetti Family Gymnasium.

Freshman Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the team offensively against the Yellow Jackets with nine kills. Additionally, senior Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) added another nine kills along with freshman Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) who contributed four kills. Junior captain Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) had 27 assists throughout the match. Defensively, junior Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) led the way with three blocks and senior captain Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) had 14 digs.

The Presidents were on the offensive front foot from the first point. They opened the match with a 5-0 lead and did not look back. The Presidents also finished the first set on a 5-0 run with serves by freshman Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) to take the opening set, 25-11.

The Presidents continued their offensive performance throughout the second set. Dagen served a 10-2 run to separate themselves from the Yellow Jackets. Déjà vu for the Presidents, as they went on to win the second set 25-11 as well.

The final set continued in the Presidents favor when they opened it with a 10-1 run off serves from freshman Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity). Allen finished the match with four aces to her totals. The Presidents closed off the match on an 8-1 run, winning the third set 25-14.

The Presidents return to the court on the road on Wednesday (Sept. 24) for a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup against the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Action will begin in Latrobe, Pa. at 7:00 p.m.
