LATROBE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (7-7, 2-1) swept the Saint Vincent Bearcats (2-5,1-2) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-15).
Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) each powered the offense for back-to-back matches in conference play. Dagen led the team with 11 kills while Fetsko added 10 kills.
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) controlled the setting room with 35 assists.
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) led in digs with 18 while
Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) contributed 12 digs.
The Presidents got out to a fast start against the PAC Preseason South Division favorites in the first set, growing an 16-9 lead.
Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) closed the door on the first set with a block and kill to close the opening set.
W&J opening the second set with a 9-1 run which were bookended by service aces from
Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Moorhouse. Kills from
Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Dagen elevated the Presidents' lead to 15-5. Fetsko sealed the second set win with a kill, 25-16.
Despite a slow start to the third set going down by three, W&J powered back to grow a 15-5 lead. Holding the lead for the remainder of the set, W&J secured their sweep with a four-point run. A service ace by Jacobs and kills from Sirianni and Fetsko ensured the 3-0 victory over the Bearcats.
W&J returns to conference play this Friday (Sept. 26) as they host the Thiel Tomcats for team's annual Morgan's Message Game. Opening serve is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
