Presidents Tame the Tomcats En Route to Third Straight Victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (8-7, 3-1) defeated the visiting Thiel Tomcats (8-4, 3-1) in a 3-1 match (25-21, 13-25, 27-25, 25-14).

Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the offense with 15 kills accompanied by Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) who added 13 kills. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan), Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) all added three service aces each.

Moorhouse led the setting room with 37 assists. Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) and Allen each had 17 digs. Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) racked up seven total blocks while Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) had five.

The Presidents opened the first set of play with a 9-4 lead that featured a seven-point run started by a Stossel kill. The Presidents traded points down the stretch but ultimately held on for the 25-21 set one victory.

Thiel owned the second set en route to their sole set victory on the night, 25-13.

Despite a hot start for the Tomcats in set three with an early 9-1 lead, the Presidents chipped their way back. W&J went on a seven-point streak sparked by an assisted block by Oldham and Stossel. Trading points to a 25-25 score, the Presidents came through will kills by Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Dagen to slam the door on the third set victory in favor of W&J.

The Presidents coasted to a set four victory to close out the Presidents' Athletic Conference match, 3-1. W&J closed out the set with five consecutive points, bookended by a Sirianni ace.
