W&J Earns Road Win over Eastern Mennonite, 2-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team (3-3) picked up its first road win of the season, a 2-0 victory over host Eastern Mennonite University (0-4) in non-conference play Sunday afternoon in Virginia.

The Presidents dominated the pace of the play in the contest. W&J outpaced EMU by a 22-2 margin in shots, which included an 11-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Red and Black registered a 9-2 advantage in penalty corner chances.

W&J tallied 12 shots and four penalty corners in the opening half of play. The Presidents broke through with a goal in the second quarter. Joscelynn Anglin (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) found the back of the cage on an unassisted goal midway through the frame. Anglin's goal goes down as her second game-winning goal of the week.

The Presidents continued to apply pressure throughout the second half before Sara Schriver (Pickens, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal School) tallied an unassisted goal with a little more than eight minutes remaining.

Defensively, W&J held steady throughout the game, allowing just two shots and two corners over the 60 minutes of play.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned the win in goal to move her record to 2-3 this season. Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Anglin paced the offense with four shots on goal and two shots on goal, respectively.

W&J continues its road swing when they head to Delaware, Ohio to face reigning conference champion Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in central Ohio.
