WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson Presidents men's tennis team (0-2) continued their fall season with a 6-1 defeat against the Mount Union Purple Raiders (1-0).
The Purple Raiders started strong, winning two out of the three doubles matches. Senior captain Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and junior Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
The Purple Raiders took the momentum from their doubles victories into individual play. Senior captain Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) picked up the lone point for the Presidents with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
The Presidents take a short break and will return on Tuesday (Sept. 30) as they host the Division II West Liberty Hilltoppers. Doubles matches will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center. Singles matches will follow thereafter.
