W&J Falls in Road Match to Penn State Harrisburg


STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Four second half goals were the difference for Penn State Harrisburg (6-1) in a 4-0 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team (3-5) in a non-conference game at the Penn State University Field Hockey Complex in State College.

W&J battled with Harrisburg during a scoreless first 30 minutes of action. The Presidents turned away three shots on goal by the Lions. Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) registered the lone shot on goal in the first half for W&J.

Penn State Harrisburg broke through with a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the first quarter. The first PSH score came from Victoria Castano after a penalty corner opportunity. Sadie Cook tacked on a second score for the Lions a little more than a minute later.

Joscelynn Anglin (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) put a shot on goal late in the third, which was turned aside by the PSH goalkeeper.

The Lions scored twice in the fourth to finish off the victory.

Penn State Harrisburg out-shot W&J by a 14-2 margin (10-2 shots on goal). The Lions recorded nine penalty corners to two penalty corner opportunities for the Presidents.  

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished with six saves in 60 minutes in goal for the Presidents.

W&J returns home to face DePauw University on Saturday, Sept. 27. The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match is scheduled for 12 p.m. W&J will honor its senior class prior to the start of the contest.
