Presidents Battle in Narrow Loss to DePauw on Field Hockey Senior Day

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Field Hockey team (3-6, 1-2 NCAC) dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting DePauw University (4-3, 1-0 NCAC) on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

Prior to the start of the conference contest, the Presidents recognized their senior class for their commitment and dedication to the program over the past four years. The seven team members recognized were Julianna Paronish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), Sara Schriver (Pickens, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal School), Bailey Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Lindsey Blount (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint), Joscelynn Anglin (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville), Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Riley Dortenzo (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg).

Despite the loss, the Presidents put together an inspired effort on their home turf, falling by just a single goal. The Tigers had beaten the Presidents by a combined 13-1 margin in the past two meetings including an 8-0 score just a season ago.

DePauw registered the lone goal of the game with 1:18 remaining before halftime. The Tigers took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity, capitalizing on a shot from the top of the circle by Hailey Nowak.

W&J goalkeeper Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) accounted for nine saves, which included five stops in the fourth quarter. That included a penalty stroke save on an attempt by Nowak.

The Presidents head to Gambier, Ohio for a conference clash with Kenyon College on Saturday (October 4). Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
