Men’s Water Polo Falls to Division II Opponents

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team (1-5) dropped two contests on the road against the Gannon Golden Knights (5-6) and the McKendree Bearcats (3-4).
 
W&J 7, Gannon 22
The Golden Knights jumped out to an early 7-2 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. Senior captain Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and Hector Santaella (Key Biscayne, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) each scored in the opening period. The Presidents were held scoreless in the second quarter, as Gannon took at 13-2 lead into the half.
 
Parker Elliott (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Ciro Pro (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita of Cascia) and Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) each tacked on markers in the third quarter.
 
Timothy Deutsch (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) capped the morning with two goals in the fourth quarter as the Presidents fell, 22-7.
 
W&J 10, McKendree 21
The Bearcats started strong offensively leading 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. A. Miller got the scoring underway for the Presidents. 
 
The Bearcats were able to score six more goals in the second quarter to expand their lead. The Presidents found two more themselves with sophomore Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and freshman Liam Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) each added their names on the scoresheet.
 
The Presidents equalized the Bearcats offense with both teams scoring four goals apiece in the third quarter. Sophomore Joseph Aranda (Albuquerque, N.M./Menaul School) scored two goals in the quarter. Souder and Elliot each added a goal as well.
 
The Presidents found their offensive stride late in the match but ultimately ran out of time. Aranda added another goal in the fourth to lead the scoring for the Presidents. A. Miller got his second goal of the game and Parker got himself on the scoresheet.
 
The Presidents look to regroup as they close out the weekend in Erie with one final match against Penn State Behrend on Sunday (Sept. 28).  Play will begin at 9:15 a.m.
