9/28/2025 6:12:00 PM

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team (1-6) closes out the weekend in Erie with a 13-11 defeat to the Penn State Behrend Lions (3-7).

The Presidents started the match off strong, leading 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.  Goals came from freshman Liam Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep), junior Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech), and senior captain Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep).  The senior captain also scored the lone goal in the second quarter for the Presidents.  The Lions took a 5-4 lead into the third quarter.

The final two quarters continued to be a tight battle between the two teams.  It was a strong offensive quarter for the Presidents in the third.  The Presidents scored four times, with goals coming from L. Miller, junior captain Timothy Deutsch (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), and two from freshman Topher Mitchell (Annapolis, Md./Loyola Blakefield).  The Presidents continued to put up a fight in the final quarter with goals from L. Miller, freshman Ciro Pro (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita of Cascia), and sophomore Parker Elliott (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen).  The Lions were able to match the Presidents offensively in the final quarter to maintain their advantage and ultimately win the contest.

The Presidents take some time away from competition but will return at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Games on Saturday (Oct. 18) and Sunday (Oct. 19).  The Presidents will travel to Penn State Behrend for this four-match event.
