WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer (4-5, 1-1) shutout the Hiram Terriers (4-5, 1-1) in a 2-0 match.
The Presidents got out to a great start, scoring in the 26
th minute of the opening half of action.
Maura Heberle (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) scored an unassisted strike to put the Presidents up 1-0 heading into the half. W&J outshot Hiram 7-3 with six shots on target.
W&J entered the second half with the same momentum from the opening period, scoring in the 64
th minute. Heberle found
Bridget Callihan (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) for the goal to elevate the Presidents lead, 2-0. The Presidents held a 9-1 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks in the final half of play.
Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) played the full 90 minutes in goal with one save. This marks the junior goalkeepers second shutout of the season.
The Presidents return to their home pitch at Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 1) to face the Franciscan Barons. The match is set for a 5:00 p.m. start.
