Women’s Volleyball Works Swift Sweep over Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (3-2) won a 3-0 sweep over the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (0-4) during a midweek match.

Performances by Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) and Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) highlighted the team's third victory of the season. McFarland led defensively with 21 digs while Moorhouse held down the setting room with 26 assists. Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) also contributed three total blocks. Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) and Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each led in kills with seven and six, respectively.

Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) gave the Presidents an immediate spark to commence the first set, aiding the Presidents in a rapid 10-0 advantage. Allen contributed three service aces and a kill to open the run. Kills by Oldham and Dagen grew the lead to 17-6. A kill by Alyssa Trn (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) sparked a four-point run to close out the first set, 25-10.

The Presidents continued their offensive momentum in the second set, creating a 11-2 lead. Kills by Anna Boikov (Wilmore, Ky./West Jessamine) and Cassie Smith (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) shut the door on the second set, 25-12.

The Bobcats found their stride in the third set, working their way to a 10-10 tie in the early going. A service error from Pitt-Greensburg sparked a nine-point run for W&J, highlighted by two kills from Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and kills from Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and Dagen. Despite late back and forth point exchange, the Presidents managed to close out the contest with a 25-16 third set score off a kill by Beyoncé Pierce.

W&J returns to the court on the road to face two foes at the Penn State Altoona Tri-Match. The Presidents will kick off tri-match action against the Penn Wildcats on Saturday (Sept. 6) at 1:00 p.m.
