Men’s Soccer Nets Four Goals in Triumph over Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – Washington and Jefferson College men's soccer (2-0-1) continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-2 victory over the Pennsylvania State University Altoona Lions (0-4-0).

The Presidents had another quick start to the contest as Chris Davis (Toms Brook, Va./Strasburg) opened the scoring in the third minute of action. The lead was short lived as Altoona equalized one minute later. Penn State scored again in the 37th minute, taking a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Presidents were down 6-5 on shots but led 5-0 on corner kicks.

The Presidents took the offensive momentum into the second half as junior Owen Rowlands (Hazle Township, Pa./Wyoming Seminary Prep) equalized the match at two in the 55th minute off an assist from Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md./Westminster). Senior captain Ethan Bowser (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) gave the Presidents the lead in the 72nd minute, 3-2. Rowlands scored a brace in the 80th minute to seal the Presidents with a 4-2 victory.

In goal, Junior Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) had six saves in the contest.

The Presidents look to take their unbeaten run back to Alexandre Stadium on Tuesday (Sept. 9) against the Carlow Celtics. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
