Gilles Breaks Program Record as Track & Field Wraps YSU Mid-Major Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College track & field teams closed out competition at the annual YSU Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Division I Youngstown.
 
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) headlined the day with another school record earned this weekend. After helping break the program record in the DMR, Gilles raced her way to a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a W&J women's indoor school record time of 2:20.14. Her new personal-best time outpaced Claire Anderson's (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) top time of 2:20.84 from the 2024 season.
 
Anderson also competed today in the elite section of the 1-mile run, posting a time of  5:04.13 to finish sixth.
 
Abigael Nicolas (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) posted two top finishes in the jumps for the Presidents. Nicolas highlighted the day with a personal-best jump of 1.55 meters (5' 1") in the high jump to finish second. She also placed 16th in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 10.22 meters (33' 6.50").
 
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) capped the top women's finishers, taking ninth in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:35.63.
 
The W&J men's track & field team was headed by the efforts of Noah Neil (California, Pa./California Area) in the high jump, finishing in a tie for eighth place with a top jump of 1.74 meters (5' 8.50").
 
Dominic Flitcraft (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) took 10th in the 1-mile run with a fast time of 4:26.75.
 
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers) raced his way to an 11th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.37.
 
W&J track & field returns to the indoor track on Saturday (Feb. 7) for a split day between the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational and the Sykes & Sabock Challenge at Penn State University.
