Women’s Soccer Celebrates Senior Day with 3-0 Victory Over Geneva

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team (4-6-0, 2-3-0) picked up a 3-0 win over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes (3-4-4, 0-2-3) on senior recognition day.

Junior Madison Rose (Butler, Pa./Butler) led the Presidents with two goals on seven shots. Senior Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) had a goal on four shots as well.

The Presidents set the tone offensively in the opening six minutes as the Presidents rallied off four quick opportunities from the opening kickoff. Rose and sophomore Aubrey Seder (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) both forced saves from the Geneva goalkeeper early. Sophomore Rylin Bugosh (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) rattled a shot off the crossbar from approximately 30 yards out as well.

Both teams traded chances before Rose struck first with a bottom corner shot from around 25 yards out to take the 1-0 advantage into halftime. W&J outshot the Golden Tornadoes in the opening 45 minutes 8-3.

Geneva came out in the second half fighting for an equalizer, but the W&J back line held up to keep the slight advantage. W&J regained possession and started their push to a brace. The Red & Black fired off four shots in response to the Geneva chances.

Rose secured a brace by converting a penalty kick that was drawn by senior Maura Heberle (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver); doubling the lead to 2-0. Just over two minutes later, Corrette-Bennett made it 3-0 by burying home a cross by Seder. W&J controlled possession to conclude the contest and secured the 3-0 victory at home.

The W&J backline only allowed two shots on target in the match. Senior Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) picked up her third shutout of the season playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Presidents. Schoch recorded two saves in the contest.

The Presidents return to the pitch on Tuesday (Oct. 6) when they team travels to face the Bethany Bison. Kickoff from Bethany, W. Va. is slated for 4:00 p.m.
