Men’s Soccer Picks Up Shutout Victory over Bethany, 2-0

BETHANY, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-2-1) shutout the Bethany Bison (0-10-0, 0-6-0) in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, 2-0.
 
Gavin Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) got the scoring for the Presidents started in the 39th minute of play with a penalty kick goal. Julian Shaw (Upper Marlboro, Md./St. Andrews) of the W&J put additional shots in the closing minutes of the half, both off target. The Presidents held a 12-3 advantage in shots, four shots being on target. The Presidents also held a 5-1 differential in corner kicks prior to the close of the opening half.
 
Each team traded yellow cards in the second half prior to he final score of the match. Luke Curran (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Jospeh) assisted Owen Rowlands (Hazle Township, Pa./Wyoming Seminary Prep) on a goal at the beginning of the 81st minute to elevate the W&J lead to 2-0. The Bison logged one shot in the remaining minutes en route to the shutout victory for the Presidents.
 
Patterson led the team in shots and shots on goal with four and three, respectively. Curran had three total shots, two of which were on target. Derek Errett (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) also had two shots with one being on frame.
 
Logan Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves on the afternoon.
 
The Presidents will return to Alexandre Stadium to face the Thiel Tomcats on Saturday (Oct. 10) during W&J's Homecoming Weekend. Opening touch is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
