TRAFFORD, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College runners
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) and
Wyatt Stroup (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) have been awarded Presidents' Athletic Conference Track & Field weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday (Feb. 10).
Anderson was selected as the PAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week. For the second consecutive season, the senior broke a W&J indoor track & field record at the annual Sykes & Sabock Challenge hosted by Division I Penn State University. Anderson shattered her previous record in the 3,000 with a time of 9:41.89 to finish second, bested only by a runner from Division I West Virginia University. Her record-breaking time erased nearly 22 seconds from her previous standard and is currently the ninth fastest time in the country this season.
Stroup was awarded the PAC Men's Track & Field Newcomer of the Week. The freshman raced his way to a personal-best finish in the mile run with a time of 4:23.68 at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge. He finished 15th overall as the only DIII competitor in the 20-runner field. Stroup's time is currently the fastest mark in the PAC this season.
The W&J track & field teams return to the indoor facilities on Saturday (Feb. 14) for the annual SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games in Geneva, Ohio.
