BRADFORD, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its 2026 season opener against the Pitt-Bradford Panthers (3-0), 9-8.
The Presidents were led by the efforts of William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who scored a hat trick on the afternoon with three goals off of seven shots. Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin), Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum), Dylan Batche (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Braydon Reighard (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) and Noah Schratz (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) each contributed one goal on the day.
Caden Bazzoli (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the W&J defenders with four caused turnovers and one ground ball. Petrarco also had three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Schratz also collected four ground balls and dished out two assists.
Both units ended the first half knotted at 4-4 through the first half. Petrarco scored the first goal of the season for the Presidents in the first quarter at the 7:29 mark. Golebiewski evened the score at the closing seconds of the opening quarter, 2-2. Fenimore and Schratz tacked on responsive scores in the second quarter to knot the score at four at the half.
The Panthers got on the board first coming out of the halftime break, down 5-4. Fenimore tacked on two goals in response to give the Presidents their first lead of the day, 6-5. Fenimore's goals were assisted by Reighard and Schratz, respectively. Batche and Reighard netted scores to cushion the W&J lead to three, 8-5.
Pitt-Bradford kept the W&J at bay in the final 15:33, ending the contest on four unanswered goals to take the 9-8 victory. The Panthers scored the game-winning goal with 53 seconds remaining in regulation.
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) played all 60 minutes in goal with 11 saves. The Presidents also lost the faceoff differential, 14-5.
The men's lacrosse team remains on the road as they continue the start of the 2026 season with a clash with the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Wednesday (Feb. 25). The game has a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
