Women’s Lacrosse Doubles Up Cal Lutheran for First Win of 2026

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A well-balanced attack helped the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (1-2) secure a 12-6 victory over host California Lutheran (1-5) in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Senior midfielder Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led the Presidents offensively with four goals and an assist to go along with two draw controls and two ground balls. The four-goal effort moves Bolinda to 97 for her career. Her classmate, Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley), added a pair of goals and an assist.

Senior attacker Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) scored twice and grabbed three ground balls in the victory. Junior midfielder Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) picked up a game-high four ground balls while junior defender Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) added three ground ball pickups. Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Hecker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) made five saves to pick up her first victory as a President.

A fast start fueled the Presidents in their pursuit of victory. W&J received four goals by four different players over the first five-plus minutes to take early control. Sophomore attack Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) scored an unassisted goal just 52 seconds into the contest. Just a few minutes later, Kloehn and Holland added a pair of goals just 27 seconds apart to move the lead to 3-0. Bogats capped the early run with a goal of her own, scoring off a pass from Byard. Senior attacker Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) found the back of the net later in the first quarter as the Presidents led 5-2 after the opening 15 minutes.

Both teams scored twice in the second quarter. A pair of goals by Bolinda made it 7-4 Presidents at halftime.

A strong third quarter helped the Presidents pull away and pad their lead. The Red and Black outscored the Regals by a 5-1 margin in the frame. Kloehn, Bogats and freshman Bekah Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) each scored as the Presidents continued to lead. Bolinda added the final two goals of the quarter to extend the lead to six.

The Presidents held advantages in shots (27-14), shots on goal (17-8) and ground balls (22-12). Both teams recorded 10 draw controls.

W&J will now return home from the West Coast. The Presidents host Marietta College for a non-conference game on Wednesday (March 18). Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
