Two Presidents Selected for Baseball Athlete of the Week Honors Following Florida Trip

TRAFFORD, Pa. – Two Washington & Jefferson College baseball players have been awarded Athlete of the Week honors from the Presidents Athletic Conference, as announced by the conference on Monday (March 16).
 
Senior Anthony Pass (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) was selected as the PAC Pitcher of the Week. Pass powered the Presidents to its seventh victory of the season in a win over Rochester on the team's annual Florida spring break trip. The senior pitched 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts, tying his career-high in punchouts, and zero walks while allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He struck out the side in two innings and allowed just three base runners over the final five innings of work. Pass earned his 10th career pitching victory and upped his strikeout total to 92.
 
Freshman Tyler Maddix (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) was chosen as the PAC Newcomer of the Week. Maddix helped the Presidents finish with a 5-1 record on W&J's annual Florida trip to compete in the RussMatt Invitational. Maddix finished the week with a .545 batting average (6-for-11) with five runs batted in, two doubles, two stolen bases and three hit by pitches. He also finished with a .643 on base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage. Maddix was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs in an 18-9 win over RIT. In the final game of the trip, he was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored three runs and knocked in three in a 13-1 victory over Mount St. Mary.
 
W&J baseball returns to the great state of Pennsylvania on Wednesday (March 18) for a single nonconference matchup with the Oberlin Yeomen. First pitch at Ross Memorial Park is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
