MARIETTA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (9-2) picked up its fifth consecutive victory during their first game back from spring break against the Marietta Pioneers (2-11), 14-2.
Zac Stern (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) led the Presidents in RBIs with five on the night, including a two-run homer.
Keegan Carr (Irwin, Pa./Norwin / Indiana University of Pennsylvania) also finished the day going 4-for-5 from the plate, driving in one run.
Teddy Platt (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) had two doubles, going 3-for-4 on the night.
Seth Rosenfeld (Ellicott City, Md./Long Reach) also hit his first home run as a President.
W&J added eight runs with no response from the Pioneers through the first four innings. The Presidents scored two runs in the opening two innings, the first being through an RBI fielder's choice from Stern, 1-0. In the second inning following a double from Rosenfeld and advancement to third off an error, the freshman stole home as Platt stole second to increase the lead to 2-0.
Stern knocked in two mor runs in the third off a two-run home run, 4-0. The Presidents doubled their score in the fourth inning which was sparked by a solo shot over the left field fence from Rosenfeld.
Jack Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) piled on with a two-RBI single.
Despite two runs from Marietta in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Presidents remained on track offensively by adding six additional runs through the remaining at bats to coast to the 14-2 victory. W&J added two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and one run in the ninth off a
Zain Jadallah (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) RBI double.
Bobby Budacki (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton Area) was credited with his first win of the season for the Presidents with 4.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
Chase Perry (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with one punchout and only three hits surrendered.
Jake Stiehl (Reston, Va./South Lakes) closed out the matchup in the final 2.0 innings, fanning two batters and not allowing a hit.
W&J looks to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play on the road at Geneva on Saturday (March 21). First pitch of the doubleheader is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
