WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (3-5) shutout the La Roche Redhawks (0-5) in Sunday action at Alexandre Stadium, 19-0.
Braydon Reighard (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) and
William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each finished the day with five goals.
AJ Cruz (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) also netted three goals for his first collegiate hat trick.
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and
Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) had two goals on the afternoon with five and four ground balls, respectively.
Josue Jimenez-Flores (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) and
Brady Vaclavik (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) also scored their first collegiate goals.
Jaxon Specht (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) led the team in ground balls with nine. Petrarco and
Logan Waychoff (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the team in caused turnovers with three each.
Riley Bullock (Kennett Square, Pa./Wilmington Christian (Del.)) had two caused turnovers and five ground balls as well. Freshman
Jack Dufalla (Washington, Pa./Trinity) contributed six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Presidents stepped on the gas early in the first quarter, scoring eight goals in the opening quarter. Reighard scored three goals in the opening quarter. Jimenez-Flores scored his first goal as a President with three seconds remaining in the first quarter, 8-0.
W&J added seven more goals to their tally in the second quarter to take a 15-0 lead into the halftime break. Fenimore added three consecutive goals in the period including a man-up goal to complete his hat trick.
The Red & Black cruised the rest of the way, scoring four goals in the remaining four quarters to pick up their first shutout victory of the season, 19-0.
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) picked up the win in goal for the Presidents with one save.
John Novoselich (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y./James I. Oneill) got most of the work in goal for W&J, picking up two saves in over 44 minutes of action.
W&J men's lacrosse returns to action on Wednesday (March 25) for a matchup with the Chatham Cougars in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The league matchup is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Alexandre Stadium.
