WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-1) dropped its first Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup of the season in a midweek clash with the Chatham Cougars (6-2, 1-0), 28-2.
William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) each scored the lone goals for the Presidents. Freshman
Ryan Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) dished both assists on the night. Freshman
Jack Dufalla (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the team in caused turnovers with two.
The Cougars opened the contest with a 5-0 first quarter, holding the Presidents to seven shots. Chatham tacked on 14 more goals in the second quarter, accompanied by a goal from Fenimore in the midst of the opposing scoring barrage. W&J entered the half down 19-1, the largest deficit the Presidents have faced at the halftime break this season.
The Cougars added nine more goals to the Presidents one additional goal scored by Golebiewski to close out the midweek contest, 28-2.
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) got tabbed with the loss, playing 30 minutes in goal with 10 saves and a team-high five ground balls.
John Novoselich (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y./James I. Oneill) played the second half and had five saves.
W&J returns to Alexandre Stadium this coming Saturday (March 28) for a nonconference matchup with the visiting Augustana (Ill.) Vikings. Opening faceoff is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
