Baseball Sweeps Waynesburg University to Extend Winning Streak to 11 Straight Games

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (15-2, 6-0) moved its winning streak to 11 games following a doubleheader sweep of visiting Waynesburg University (8-14, 1-5) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference twinbill Saturday at Ross Memorial Park.

The I-79 battle between the Presidents and Yellow Jackets featured a pair of teams heading in opposite directions in the win column. W&J continued its hot streak, as the Presidents have not suffered a setback in nearly three weeks. Meanwhile, Waynesburg has now lost 11 of its last 12 games after a 7-2 start to the season.

Game One – W&J 16, Waynesburg 4 (7 Innings)

The Presidents rolled up 16 runs on 17 hits as they cruised in an abbreviated run-rule game one victory. Josh Dezenzo (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and Teddy Platt (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished with three hits apiece. Keegan Carr (Irwin, Pa./Norwin / Indiana University of Pennsylvania), Zac Stern (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) and Andrew Miko (Portage, Pa./Portage) also finished with multi-hit efforts. Miko recorded four RBI and scored twice.

The Yellow Jackets got off to a good start by scoring two unearned runs in the top of the first. The lead, however, was short lived as the Presidents scrapped back two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Stern highlighted the inning with an RBI single to get the Presidents on the board.

After a scoreless second inning, W&J took control of the game with runs in each of the next four innings. The Red and Black scored three times in the third, which included a two-run double by Tyler Maddix (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) to make it 5-2.

The Presidents scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carr and Platt each registered RBI singles as the lead swelled to 11-2 following the frame.
Miko ripped a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 14-2. The Presidents cruised to the seven-inning victory.

Anthony Pass (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) improved to 5-0 on the mound in 2026. The senior hurler allowed two unearned runs on six hits in five innings. Pass struck out four and issued no walks in the outing. Pass lowers his earned-run average to 0.94 for the season.

Game Two – W&J 9, Waynesburg 1

Brendan Cruz (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) continued to show himself as one of the top arms in Division III to start the 2026 season. The junior righty allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings. Cruz struck out eight, walked just two and allowed one unearned run during the outing. His season ERA drops to 0.33, which ranks among the top five in Division III baseball.

Dezenzo again led the offensive efforts with three hits (two home runs), three RBI and two runs scored.

Dezenzo put the Presidents in front with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third. Carr tacked on a two-run single in the fourth to make it 4-1.

The Presidents added onto its lead late in the game. Dezenzo smacked a solo shot in the seventh while Stern went deep with a two-run home run later in the inning. W&J led 7-1 after seven innings.

W&J scored twice in the eighth to conclude the scoring with a 9-1 victory.

Brady Dojonovic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and Thomas McLaren (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) worked scoreless frames out of the bullpen to wrap up the win.

The Presidents step out of conference play to face Muskingum University on Tuesday (March 31). First pitch in New Concord, Ohio for the single nine-inning contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
