NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Track & Field teams wrapped up action at the Westminster Invite, hosted by the Westminster Titans. Five Presidents set new collegiate personal bests at the event.
Senior
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio/Lordstown) led the Presidents' women's team with two top-five finishes on the day. On the track, Schneider finished third in the 100-Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.26. Additionally, the senior recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a furthest distance of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5").
Junior
Katie Kovalchick (Shelocta, Pa./Indiana Area) has produced a top 10 javelin result in all three events she has competed in this season. Kovalchick finished in second place with a best throw of 36.49 meters (119' 8").
Sophomore
Lainey Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) continued W&J's strong run of performances in the hurdle events. Hartner ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:09.09.
Freshman
Emily Frankovich (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) ran a collegiate personal best time of 5:12.24 en route to a 10th-place finish in the 1500 meters.
The Presidents' men's team finished in the top five in the three jumps events at the Westminster Invite. Junior
Nick DeSanto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) jumped to a third-place finish in the high jump, posting a score of 1.96 meters (6' 5"). DeSanto also jumped to a fourth-place finish in the long jump, reaching 6.5 meters (21' 4"). In the triple jump, classmate
Tavan Schoenberger (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) jumped to a fifth-place finish with a score of 13.23 meters (43' 5").
Freshman
Daniel Petersen (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) ran the 1500 meters with a time of 4:14.41 and finished in fifth place.
The men's team had two seventh-place finishes in New Wilmington. Sophomore
Anand Karamcheti (Washington, Pa./Washington) finished with a time of 2:00.28 in the 800 meters. Additionally, freshman
Griffin Burnett (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) had a furthest throw of 48.1 meters (157' 9") in the javelin.
The two teams return to the track on Friday (April 17) when the team travels to the Benson Hodge Memorial Invitational, hosted by Division I Robert Morris. More information about the start times and live results will be announced closer to the event.
