WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College junior
Jaden Wan (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The NCAA Division III SAAC consists of 42 individuals from across the division.
"Jaden is an extremely talented student-athlete and her campus leadership is on display every day," said
Scott McGuinness, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Athletics. "We are excited for her to have a voice on the national level during a critical period in college athletics, representing W&J and the Presidents' Athletic Conference."
Wan, a three-year member of the W&J women's basketball team, is in her first year serving as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at W&J. Through her role with the NCAA, Wan will serve as the representative for the entire Presidents' Athletic Conference.
"I joined SAAC freshman year because I was excited to get involved and represent my fellow student-athletes," Wan said. "Through leadership roles and my involvement with PAC SAAC, I was nominated and selected to represent my conference on a national level, attending meetings and conventions to serve as a voice for those around me."
Washington & Jefferson College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is made up of students assembled to provide insight on the campus student-athlete experience. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
In Division III, legislation is proposed to the Management Council from Division III committees, including SAAC, and the Management Council then has the option of forwarding the proposed legislation to the Division III Presidents Council for approval. If the legislation is approved by the Presidents Council, it is voted on annually at the NCAA Convention in January by each Division III member institution and conference to determine if it will become new legislation.
Wan is the third W&J student-athlete to serve on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, joining former golfer Katelyn Vannoy '14 and former volleyball Angela Lattanzio '04.
