Presidents Extend Win Streak in Victory over Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (7-5, 5-2) extended the team's winning streak to four games with a 20-3 victory over the Saint Vincent Bearcats (7-5, 3-4) in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
 
Seven Presidents found the offensive side of the scoresheet during this evening's win. Freshman Bekah Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) led the Presidents with a nine-point performance. Meiklejohn finished the contest with three goals and six assists. Senior captain Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led the team in goals, netting four along with one assist.
 
The Presidents started the game scoring eight goals in the opening quarter. Senior Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored all three of her goals in the contest during the opening 15 minutes. The Red & Black continued their strong offensive outputs by outscoring the Bearcats 6-1 in the second quarter. Junior Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and freshman Haylee Phenneger (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each scored two in the frame. Meiklejohn had three assists in the second quarter as well.
 
W&J found the back of the net six additional times during the second half. Meiklejohn and sophomore Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) each found the scoresheet in the third quarter. Seniors Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) each rounded out their scoring tallies alongside Bolinda and Meiklejohn.
 
The Presidents also had strong performances with draw controls. Bogats led the team with six draw controls. Additionally, Byard had five draw controls, and Bolinda finished the game with four.
 
Defensively, freshman Sarah Brown (Denton, Md./North Caroline) led the Presidents with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Madison Hecker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) got the win in net for the Red & Black, making four saves while playing all 60 minutes.
 
W&J returns to Alexandre Stadium for one final regular-season game when they take on the Bethany Bison for Senior Recognition Day. The PAC matchup is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday (April 18).
