Women’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Bethany for Senior Day Victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (8-5, 6-2) rolled to its fifth-straight victory, a 19-0 decision over the visiting Bethany Bison (7-7, 3-4) Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

Prior to the start of the game, the Presidents celebrated its highly accomplished senior class, which consists of Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley), Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy). The quartet has helped the women's lacrosse program to 44 victories over the past four seasons, which has included the 2023 PAC Tournament Championship and appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament that same season.

Freshman Bekah Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) continued her hot stretch of play with three goals, two assists, two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls. Stewart posted a game-high seven points, which included five assists. Bolinda added three goals, three assists and three draw controls. Bolinda became just the ninth President in program history to reach 200 career points. The well-balanced offensive attack included hat tricks for Bogats and Kloehn on Senior Day.

Sophomore Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) finished with five points, which included two goals and three assists. Another milestone met on the day was one for junior Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale), who secured a pair of ground balls to surpass 100 for her career, becoming the 19th President to do so all time. Hartz also had the team high with four caused turnovers.

W&J led by an 8-0 margin after 15 minutes before quickly inflicting the 10-goal running clock early in the second quarter. The Presidents led 14-0 at halftime. W&J added five second half goals to make the final score 19-0.

The Presidents posted significant advantages in shots (36-3), shots on goal (28-0), successful clears (13-4), ground balls (29-14) and draw controls (14-7).

Saturday's victory locked up a home game for the Presidents in the PAC Tournament quarterfinals later this month.

W&J concludes the regular season at Hiram on Wednesday, April 22. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
