Women’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Hiram for Sixth-Straight Win

HIRAM, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (9-5, 7-2) picked up a commanding 22-0 victory over host Hiram College (1-12, 0-7) in Wednesday afternoon action in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

The Presidents boasted a well-balanced effort offensively. Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Bekah Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) finished with seven points apiece on two goals and five assists each. Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy), Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley), Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) all registered hat tricks.

During Wednesday's game, Bogats became the 10th player in program history to surpass 200 career points. Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) chipped in five points with a pair of goals and three assists. Haylee Phenneger (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) filled the stat sheet with two goals, three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Bolinda posted six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kloehn finished with a match-high four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) had three caused turnovers. 

The Presidents led by a 9-0 margin after the opening quarter before pushing the advantage to 13-0 at halftime. The Red and Black added five more goals in the third and four additional scores in the fourth quarter. Ten different Presidents scored in the game including Megan Brackney (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), who registered her first goal of the season.

W&J held sizeable advantages in shots (28-3), shots on goal (23-1), ground balls (22-6) and draw controls (14-9).

The Presidents will await its opponent for the PAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (April 28). The contest will be held at Alexandre Stadium.
