HIRAM, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team (0-3, 0-1) dropped a 2-0 verdict to the Hiram Terriers (2-0-3, 1-0) to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
The Terriers got off to an aggressive start, finding five shots on target or blocked with the first 18 minutes of action. Hiram eventually broke through as a free kick was inserted in front of the goal for an assisted score, 1-0. W&J attempted a response, finishing the first half with six shots.
Despite two yellow cards on Hiram, the Presidents still struggled to find the back of the net out of the break. The Terriers scored an additional goal in the 86
th minute as they made their way to a 2-0 win over the Presidents.
Freshman
Gavin Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led W&J in shots with four on the afternoon, three of which were on goal.
Jacek Piekut (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice),
Ryan Noel (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) and
Isahias Torres (Homestead, Fla./Florida Christian) each had two shots. The Presidents totaled 16 shots with seven being on target.
Sophomore
Logan Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) played all 90 minutes in goal and saved six shots.
W&J returns to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 19) to face the visiting Allegheny Gators at Alexandre Stadium. Opening touch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
