WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team (3-5-0, 1-2-0) fell 2-0 to the Saint Vincent Bearcats (6-1-1, 1-0-1) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Sophomore
Rylin Bugosh (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) led the Presidents with two shots on target. Junior
Rhyan Smith (Coal Center, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and senior
Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) each recorded one.
The Bearcats started the contest on the offensive front foot for the opening quarter of the contest. W&J got their first chance of the match when Bugosh forced a Saint Vincent save on a free kick. The Bearcats continued to push for the opening goal, but the W&J back line held strong as the game went into halftime scoreless.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the 53
rd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Saint Vincent used the momentum to try for a second goal, but W&J kept fighting. Bugosh, Corrette Bennett, and Smith all forced the Bearcat goalkeeper to make crucial saves and keep the contest 1-0. Ultimately, the Bearcats got their brace with under a minute to play and took the 2-0 victory.
Sophomore
Adysson Davis (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) got the start in goal and recorded one save.
The Presidents continue their two-match road trip when they travel to face the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Kickoff from Waynesburg is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 30).
