WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team (3-6-0, 1-3-0) dropped a 2-0 match to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (6-4-0, 4-1-0).
Madison Rose (Butler, Pa./Butler) led the team in shots with four total, two shots being on goal.
Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock),
Ava Capozzoli (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers Houston) and
Zailey Tillar (Annapolis, Md./Key School) each had two shots on the night, all dialing up a shot on target.
Maura Heberle (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) and
Elliana Semple (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each had one shot on goal.
Both units opened the first half of play with an even offensive attack. Both teams put nine shots each. The Yellow Jackets held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Presidents in the first half.
Waynesburg broke the ice in the 53
rd minute, scoring the first goal of the game following an offside call on W&J. The Yellow Jackets quickly added on a minute later, scoring the second goal of the game, 2-0. Rose, Tillar and Corrette-Bennett all logged shots in the remaining time to no avail.
Adysson Davis (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) played all 90 minutes in goal and had five saves.
The Presidents return to Alexandre Stadium for the team's annual senior recognition day prior to their match with the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Saturday (Oct. 3). Opening kick is set for a 3:30 p.m.
