Dunlap Becomes Career Block Leader; Presidents Clinch No. 3 Seed

Box Score BETHANY, W.Va. -- Valerie Dunlap blocked two shots to become Washington & Jefferson's career leader and the Presidents clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's PAC Women's Basketball Tournament during a 75-64 victory over host Bethany Saturday at Hummel Field House.

The Presidents (18-7, 13-5 PAC) will meet the Bison (7-18, 6-12 PAC) once again on Tuesday, this time in Washington in the PAC quarterfinals in the 3-6 matchup.  W&J swept the season series from Bethany for the second consecutive year and has claimed 10 of the last 12 meetings with the Bison.

Dunlap blocked her first shot of the game at the 2:42 mark of the second half which helped halt BC's momentum and gave her the career record.  She blocked another 34 seconds later to increase her career total to 135.  W&J Hall of Famer Leigh Sulkowski '06 held the previous record with 133.

Behind six early points from Chelsea Apke, W&J bounced out to a 14-3 lead.  The Presidents' never led by less than six the rest of the half and Alexa Burzese's basket with 13 seconds left gave the Presidents a 40-27 halftime lead.

Alexa DelGreco buried a three-pointer eight minutes into the second half to push the lead to 20 points at 58-38.  The Bison strung together a late rally, closing to within 67-59 at the 4:03 mark, but DelGreco laid in the next bucket and W&J was able to hold on to its 18th win of the season.

Apke led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Dunlap notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  DelGreco (13) and Beka Bellhy (12) also scored in double figures for the Presidents, who owned a 38-22 edge in points in the paint.  Washington & Jefferson held a 44-36 rebounding advantage and dished out 18 assists, six of which came from Kara Seamon.

Taylor Verrico led Bethany with 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Bethany only committed six turnovers, but shot just 35 percent (24-68) compared to the Presidents' 47 percent (28-60).

The top remaining seed after Tuesday's quarterfinals will host the semifinals (Friday) and championship game (Saturday).  Thomas More is the top seed after collecting a perfect 25-0 season, while Saint Vincent is the No. 2 seed.
