Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson held fifth-ranked Thomas More to its lowest point total of the season, but still suffered a 65-52 PAC women's basketball setback on Saturday afternoon at the Connor Convocation Center.Â
The Saints (21-0, 14-0 PAC) forced 21 W&J turnovers which led to 19points. TMC's Sydney Moss provided 27 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks in 34 minutes of action.Â
The Presidents (14-7, 9-5 PAC) played even with the Saints for the first eight minutes and
Valerie Dunlap's basketball made it a 15-15 game at the 12:33 mark. However, the Saints held W&J scoreless for over nine minutes and strung together a 13-0 run. Moss' jumper in the final minute gave the hosts a 32-17 halftime lead.Â
Moss canned a three-pointer four minutes into the second half to stretch the TMC lead to 21 points (46-25), but W&J rallied with a 16-4 run which was aided by back-to-back triples by
Alexa Burzese.Â
Kara Seamon's three-pointer brought the Presidents to within 54-46 with 5:20 remaining and
Taylor Cortazzo's layup atthe 3:46 mark closed the gap to 56-50.Â
Thomas More answered with a Jenny Burgoyne basket 12 seconds later and the Presidents were only able to score two points, a pair of
Chelsea Apke free throws, the final three minutes.Â
Apke led the Presidents with 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals.Â
Valerie Dunlap was the only other President in double figures with 10 points. Burzese knocked down three trifectas and added nine points, while
Beka Bellhy dished out a career-high seven assists.Â
Thomas More shot 44 percent (25-of-57) and had three players score in double figures.Â
W&J stays on the road when it returns to action Wednesday at Grove City (5:30 pm).Â
