W&J women's water polo sets wins record on day two

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson recorded victories over Carthage (7-6) and Macalester (14-5) Saturday to establish a new school record for single-season wins on day two of the CWPA league play weekend being held at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The Presidents (12-7) have won five consecutive games and topped 11 wins for the first time since W&J began playing NCAA Division III water polo in 2000.  Previously, W&J had won 11 matches in a season four times.

Against Carthage, W&J raced out to a 4-1 lead and held on for the victory.  Catherine Villa had three goals, including one midway through the fourth quarter which gave the Presidents a two-goal edge. Margot Wummer added two goals, while Rachel Clauss and Brittany Patterson supplied one.

W&J built a 6-0 lead at halftime on Macalester before cruising to the school record-breaking win.  Clauss fired in four goals, while Dana Wieber and Randi Cartwright both scored twice during their Senior Night match.  Sara Boldt also dropped in two goals for the Presidents.
