MACALESTER, Minn. -- Top-seeded Connecticut College ran out to a 6-1 halftime lead and hung on to defeat second-seeded Washington & Jefferson College 7-3 Sunday in the championship match of the CWPA Division III Conference Tournament at Macalester College. The Camels (15-7) now advance to the CWPA Championship at Bucknell.
The Presidents finish their season with a 17-8 overall record, smashing the school record for single-season wins. W&J's school-record 10-match win streak also came to an end on Sunday.
Rachel Clauss was named to the All-Tournament first team, while
Laura Travers and
Sara Boldt were both second-team selections.
Connecticut College's Nicky Jabson was the tournament MVP, while Carthage's Andy Bax was chosen as the conference's coach of the year.
In the loss to the Camels,
Margot Wummer,
Brittany Patterson and Boldt scored the goals. Boldt's goal tied the game in the first quarter, but the Camels held the Presidents scoreless until Patterson finally broke the drought with 5:15 remaining.
Morgan Kinyon produced six saves in goal.
