Brian Hanna game-winner sends W&J to OT victory, 2-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior Brian Hanna took advantage of a Pitt-Greensburg defensive miscue and sent the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents, playing their third overtime match in four showings already this season, improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Bobcats drop to 0-4.

Justin Carter gave W&J the lead mid-way through the first half when he notched his second goal of the year on a header that went over the out-stretched arms of UPG keeper, Brandon Galley. Connor McKenzie provided the pass that set up the goal.

After one half, the Presidents held a dominating 15-3 advantage in shots, and used a 15-6 edge in the second half to hold off the Bobcats until a corner kick with 24 seconds left by Jeremy Niemiec led to a goal by Jake Lauderbaugh with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation.

Pitt-Greensburg got the first shot attempt of overtime, but Hanna was able to take advantage of a misplay by a defender and beat the keeper to the lower right 90.

James Calvert led W&J with six shots, while Jason Menni added five and Carter and Hanna each had four.

Jon Best earned the win in goal, making four saves in 94:45.

W&J returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 with a match at Alexandre Stadium against Frostburg State, scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
