Presidents' softball goes 3-1 in two days in Clermont, Fla.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson softball team went 3-1 in a two-day span during the Spring Break trip to Florida.

The Presidents now find themselves at 5-3 with a pair of contests remaining in the Sunshine State. On Thursday, March 19, W&J will wrap up the trip with a 3 p.m. match-up against defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Tufts (Mass.), and a 5 p.m. meeting with Hamilton (N.Y.).

Two runs in the fourth inning was all the offense W&J needed in the first game of the four, a 2-0 win against Oswego State (N.Y.). Emily Watson scored when Meghan Staab reached on a error for the first run and then Morgan Figura scored on an error later in the frame. Krista McCartney scattered six hits and struck out four in the pitching victory.

The Presidents used a strong offensive showing in the second game of the day against Framingham State (Mass.), a 10-0 run-rule victory. Sadie Marak and Jen Bahm each contributed RBI singles in the first inning to give W&J a 2-0 lead. The Presidents added two more in the fourth before exploding for six runs in the fifth. Abby Cunningham and Marak both collected a pair of hits, while Jamie Smith and Watson each drove in two runs. Watson helped her own cause, picking up the victory with 4.0 innings pitched and just one hit allowed. She also struck out five before giving way to Bethany Shepherd who struck out two batters in a hitless fifth and final inning.

In an 8-3 loss against Allegheny, the Presidents led 2-1 after three innings, but a four-run fourth by the Gators sank W&J. Bahm led W&J with three hits and Marak reached base three times with two walks. In total. W&J walked six times in the contest.

The final match-up was a battle with Calvin (Mich.) that W&J secured a 7-3 victory in. Details of that game will be added when available.
