NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Presidents clinched the second seed in the upcoming Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championship with a 2-1 day to close the round robin at Connecticut College.
Washington & Jefferson advances to 15-8 to close the regular season after topping Macalester, 12-1, and Carthage, 11-5, and dropping a 12-9 decision to the host Camels. W&J is 10-2 in its last 12 games, with both losses coming against Conn. College, who secured the top seed at the CWPA Championship which will be hosted at Grove City on Fri.-Sat., April 10-11.
Brittany Patterson led the Presidents past Macalester with four goals, while
Sarah Latzo and
Laura Travers each tallied two scores.
Morgan Kinyon made five saves in net.
Allison Rocha had the hot hand versus Carthage, scoring four times.
Sara Boldt and Patterson each found the back of the net twice in the win, while Kinyon recorded eight saves.
Latzo paced Division III No. 9-ranked W&J against the hosts with a hat trick, with
Madison Nervig and Travers both adding a pair of goals.
Ally Hopkins collected seven blocks in the loss.
