Box Score 2 GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one to claim a 5-4 PAC softball victory, but Washington & Jefferson bounced back to post a 4-1 win in the nightcap. Â
Rachel Marx had three hits and scored three times in game two. Â
W&J (11-9, 4-4 PAC) appeared to be cruising in the opener with a 4-0 advantage after six innings; however, the Wolverines (10-6, 2-3 PAC) pulled off the comeback with five runs on five hits after being down to their final two outs. Â The winning run was scored as the bases were loaded and Kelsey Shirey scored on an error. Â
Meghan Staab's RBI single in the second scored W&J's first run, while
Chalese Wilson followed with a RBI double. Â
Emily Watson singled home
Abby Cunningham in the third for a 3-0 lead and Breana Gleason made it a 4-0 game in the sixth when her single scored
Morgan Figura. Â Figura, Watson and Cunningham all produced a pair of base hits. Â
Krista McCartney suffered the loss as five of her nine hits allowed came in the seventh. Â She struck out a pair of Wolverines in 6 1/3 innings. Â
Watson went the distance in the circle in the second contest after limiting Grove City to one run on six hits. Â She fanned four Wolverines and did not issue a walk. Â
In the first inning, Watson helped herself out when her triple scored
Sadie Marak. Â Grove City tied the game in the second, but Watson's RBI double in the third scored Marx and gave the Presidents the lead for good. Â
Marak scored Marx on a groundout in the fifth before tacking on a RBI double in the seventh. Â She finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI. Â
