GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team saw its season come to an end with a 13-10 loss to Connecticut College in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III championship game.
The Presidents built a 2-0 lead through one quarter of play thanks to a pair of goals by
Sara Boldt. A tally by
Rachel Clauss with 5:02 to play in the first half moved the lead to 3-1, but two Camels' goals tied the match at 3-3.
Laura Travers gave the Presidents their final lead of the day when she scored at the 2:34 mark of the second quarter, but Conn College scored the final two goals of the half to lead 5-4 after 16 minutes.
The Camels used an 8-6 advantage in the second half to post the 13-10 win and their third-straight CWPA Division III title.
Boldt and
Brittany Patterson recorded hat tricks in the loss. Clauss, Travers,
Sarah Latzo and
Tess O'Neill each collected goals as well.
Ally Hopkins had six blocks in goal.
W&J advanced to the finals after an 11-5 semifinal defeat of Carthage earlier in the day.
Patterson posted four goals in that contest, while Latzo and Boldt each scored twice. Hopkins nabbed 10 blocks in the win.
The second-seeded Presidents opened the weekend with a 15-2 defeat of seventh-seeded Utica. Three players contributed hat tricks, as Boldt, Patterson and
Elizabeth Klock each found the back of the net three times. Travers had two goals in the opening contest.
Morgan Kinyon had three blocks and Hopkins made five blocks, including two on five-meter penalty shots.
