Women's Water Polo

W&J extends winning streak to six games with perfect weekend

Date: Friday, March 24, 2017, 12:20 p.m.
Where: New London, Conn.
Opponent: Connecticut College
Result: W, 7-5
 
How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team opened its weekend with a 7-5 win over Connecticut College on Friday afternoon.
 
Top Performers: Madison Nervig (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led the Presidents' offense with four goals and came away with two steals on defense.
 
The Rest: Liz Klock (New Lennox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) scored two times and came away with a team-high eight steals. Brittany Patterson (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added a goal and six steals. Sarah Latzo (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) recorded a team-high two assists in the game and Klock, Macel Reising (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Tess O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) contributed an assist each. Ally Hopkins (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) made nine saves in goal.

Opponent: Macalester
Result: W, 7-5
 
How it Happened: The Presidents completed their first day of action with another 7-5 win, this time defeating Macalester.
 
Top Performers: Patterson led the team with a hat trick in the first game, to go along with two assists and six steals.
 
The Rest: Reising finished with two scores and an assist while Latzo and Klock both added a goal and an assist each in the game. Paige Adams (Mohnton, Pa./Govenor Mifflin) also added an assist. Hopkins made eight saves as the netminder and also had a steal.

Date: Saturday, March 25, 2017, 9:00 a.m.
Where: New London, Conn.
Opponent: Utica
Result: W, 15-4
 
How it Happened: W&J opened day two of action with a 15-4 win over Utica.
 
Top Performers: Nervig scored four goals and added an assist and Patterson scored twice in addition to assisting on four goals as they led the scoring for the Presidents.
 
The Rest: Adams recorded a hat trick and an assist. Klock scored twice while Latzo, Reising, Kirsten Yatsko (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and Amanda Borwegen (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) all scored and assisted once. Hopkins made nine saves in goal in the game.

Date: Saturday, March 25, 2017, 3:40 p.m.
Where: New London, Conn.
Opponent: Carthage
Result: W, 6-4
 
How it Happened: The Presidents won their fourth game of the weekend by a score of 6-4 over Carthage.
 
Top Performers: Klock and Patterson both scored twice and added an assist each to lead the Presidents' offense.
 
The Rest: Reising and Adams both added a goal, with Reising assisting on a score, to round out the W&J scoring in the game. Hopkins saved a weekend-high 19 shots as the goalkeeper.

Date: Sunday, March 26, 2017, 3:40 p.m.
Where: New London, Conn.
Opponent: Monmouth (Ill.)
Result: W, 12-3
 
How it Happened: W&J capped its 5-0 weekend with a convincing 12-3 win over Monmouth.
 
Top Performers: Klock and Nervig both scored five goals to pace the scoring for the Presidents in the game. Klock also added an assist.
 
The Rest: Patterson and Reising added one goal each as Patterson also assisted on two goals. O'Neill and Lexie Gartner (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) also had two assists each in the game while Hopkins stopped 16 shots in goal.

What's next: The Presidents will return to the pool on Saturday, April 1, when they face Penn State-Behrend on the road at 11:00 a.m. before traveling to face Grove City (4:30 p.m.) later that day.
