ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team won its first game of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championship by a score of 10-2 over Utica before defeating Connecticut College, 8-5, in the semifinal on Saturday, April 22.

Liz Klock (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) scored to open the game and was followed by one goal each from
Madison Nervig (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and
Sarah Latzo (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria). Klock scored again to give the Presidents a 4-0 lead heading into the second quarter before scoring her third of the game to begin the second quarter.

Nervig added her second goal of the game after Klock and was followed by
Lexie Gartner (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) before Klock scored once again, putting the Presidents up 8-0 at the half.

Klock and Nervig both scored once each in the third to round out the Presidents' scoring in the game, while the Pioneers scored once in the third and fourth quarters to cap the game scoring.

Ally Hopkins (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) stopped 13 shots as the goalkeeper for the Presidents en route to her first game of the year giving up two goals or less while it the sixth time she allowed four or fewer. Klock scored five times in the game, Nervig recorded a hat trick and Latzo and Gartner both scored once.
The 8-5 win over Connecticut College on Saturday night advances the Presidents to the CWPA Division III Championship game where they will face Macalester at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
