WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team fell, 8-6, to Macalester in its first game of the second day of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Regional on Saturday, April 8.

The loss to Macalester was the Presidents' first CWPA loss of the season (11-1) as well as their first CWPA loss since dropping a 12-9 decision to Connecticut College on March 28, 2015.

Madison Nervig (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) opened the scoring with a goal with 5:13 remaining in the first period. Macalester responded with two goals to close the first quarter and another goal in the second to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

Nervig recorded her second goal of the game in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 3-2 before the Scots scored back-to-back goals to increase their lead to three. The two team exchanged three goals each, putting the score at 8-5 in favor of Macalester, before
Sarah Latzo (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) rounded out the scoring in the game with a goal with 2:42 left in the game.

Nervig's two goals led the way for the W&J offense while Latzo,
Lexie Gartner (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson),
Paige Adams (Mohnton, Pa./Govenor Mifflin) and
Liz Klock (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) each scored once.
Ally Hopkins (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) finished with eight saves in the contest.

The Presidents (13-4) will host their Senior Day game tonight, April 8, at 6:20 p.m. against Carthage.
