YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team unofficially tipped off the 2018-19 campaign with an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I Youngstown State, falling to the Penguins by a 93-48 count.
Fresh off a 22-6 season a year ago, including 15-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, W&J enters the season as one of the younger teams in the country, boasting 15 freshmen and sophomores on the 19-player roster.
Against YSU, freshman
Cierra Davis (Bellaire, Ohio/Bellaire) led the Presidents in scoring, knocking down four-of-seven three-point attempts in finishing with 12 points. Sophomore
Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) added eight points and rookie
Kylie McKennen (Triadelphia, W. Va./Wheeling Park) pitched in seven points on three-of-five from the field. McKennen also tied with sophomore
Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) for the team lead with three assists.
Rookies
Aleena McDaniel (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) and
Tori Boalton (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) combined to make three-of-four three-point tries and total 11 points in their first collegiate action, with McDaniel making two triples while starting and Boalton hitting a triple and making two free throws.
Senior
Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) pulled down a team-best six rebounds in 22 minutes.
The Presidents officially open the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Nov. 10 with a 1 p.m. game at La Roche.
