BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed for the first time since spring 2019 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) season-opening event at Bethany.
The Presidents had a total of six individual first-place performances with three on both the men's and women's sides.
All 10 PAC institutions showed up for the first event of the 2021 outdoor season. The women's track and field team took third with a team score of 85. The W&J men finished tied for fifth with Grove City with a team score of 62.
Women's Results
Freshman jumper
Savannah Sevacko (Crafton, Pa./Carlynton) had an exceptional debut for the Red and Black as she was the top overall finisher in two events. Sevacko won the triple jump at 10.91 meters and the long jump at 5.29 meters. She came within centimeters of breaking W&J's triple jump record and had the fourth-best long jump in program history.
Freshman
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) and junior
Ashley Kovel (Everett, Pa./Everett) finished second and third respectively behind Sevacko in the triple jump. Hartner's triple jump was second at 10.30 meters and fourth in school history. Kovel was third with a distance of 9.79 meters. Hartner also took third in the long jump at 4.97 meters.
Sophomore
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California) won the 400 meter dash with a mark of 1:01.50. She finished seventh in the 200 at 28.64.
Junior
Faith Remich (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) ran to a third-place finish in the 800 at 2:27.43.
Freshman
Cassie Carr (Girdard, Pa./Girdard) finished fifth in the 1500 meter run (5:07.95), which was the fourth-fastest time in team history. She was eighth in the 800 (2:35.16).
A grouping of Hartner, Remich, Carr and Trusler combined to win the 4x400 relay at 4:18.75.
Freshman
Anna Stroup (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) ran a 17.57 in the 100 hurdle prelims and took fifth (17.59) in the finals.
Sophomore
Ali Petrisek (Ellsworth, Pa./Bentworth) was sixth in the 400 (1:08.48) and
Grace Kirwin (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington) was seventh (1:08.67). Petrisek added an eight-place showing in the long jump with a distance of 4.42 meters.
Men's Results
Freshman
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) dusted the rest of the competition by nearly a second in the 110 meter hurdles with a winning time of 16.20. He added a runner-up showing in the 400 hurdles at 58.15.
Senior
Parker Laughlin (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) won the 800 meter run at 1:56.70, the second-fastest 800 time in program history.
Freshman
Declan Fricko (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) took home the meet title in the high jump by clearing 1.83 meters. He added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (11.74 meters)
Sophomore
Aden Dressler (Evans City, Pa./Butler) finished fourth in the 1500 at 4:16.59 while freshman
Clay Yeager (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) was fifth (4:17.67).
Trevor McDonald (Chalfont, Pa./La Salle College High School) placed sixth in the javelin throw with a toss of 40.59 meters.
Jack Ryan (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) was seventh in the 100 meter dash (11.69).
The men's 4x400 relay quartet of
Sam Garber (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), Baughman, Yeager and Laughlin posted a time of 3:37.65 to finish third.
The track and field teams return to action next weekend at Geneva.
