GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's track and field teams had an eventual Saturday at the Grove City Invitational.
The W&J women placed third among all 10 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) teams that attended. The President men placed fifth out of 10.
Women
Freshman
Savannah Sevacko (Crafton, Pa./Carlynton) continued her strong rookie campaign with a first-place finish in the triple jump (10.48 meters). She took second in the long jump (4.93 meters) and seventh in the high jump (1.40 meters).
Maddie Simpson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) took home the meet title in the javelin with a throw of 33.74 meters.
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California) was third in the 200 meter dash with a season-best effort of 28.40.
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard) finished fifth in the 5000 meter run but posted the third-fastest time in program history at 18:56.40.
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) was fourth in the javelin at 30.12 meters.
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) was fourth in the long jump (4.72 meters) and the 400 (1:03.42).
Faith Remich (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) was fifth in the 800 meter run with a season-best time of 2:27.18.
Anna Stroup (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) was sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.62).
Naomi Hanna (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) was seventh in the shot put (9.95 meters).
W&J's 4x800 relay of Trusler, Carr, Hartner and Remich took first and was the second-fastest time in team history at 10:23.79.
The Presidents' 4x400 group of
Grace Kirwin (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington), Hartner,
Ali Petrisek (Ellsworth, Pa./Bentworth) and Remich took fourth at 4:28.25.
Men
Freshman
Declan Fricko (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) captured the high jump title with a mark of 1.80 meters.
Freshman hurdler
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) took second in both hurling events on Saturday. Baughman ran 16.06 in the 110 hurdles and 58.21 in the 400 hurdles. His preliminary time in the 100 hurdles of 15.91 was the fastest of the day and top time for Baughman this season.
Aden Dressler (Evans City, Pa./Butler) was third in the steeple chase at 10:15.32, which clocked in as the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Parker Laughlin (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) placed fourth in the 1500 meter run at 4:21.84.
Jack Ryan (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) took fourth in the 100 (11.56) and fifth in the 200 (23.67).
Paul Collier (Heath, Ohio/Heath) was sixth in the 5,000 meter run (16:33.32).
W&J's 4x800 relay of Dressler,
Clay Yeager (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata),
Chase Grinnell (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) and Laughlin finished first and was the second-fastest time in team history.
The 4x400 grouping of Ryan, Baughman, Dressler and Laughlin set a team season-best of 3:35.57.
The final regular season meet for track and field is scheduled for Wednesday April 21 at Bethany for an afternoon meet.
