WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team earned a pair of victories, as they edged Penn-State Behrend, 12-11, and Connecticut College by an 13-11 score, Saturday on Senior Day.
Cecilia Weiss (Mohnton, Pa./ Governor Mifflin) and
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) were both honored for their hard work and dediciation prior to the first game.
Game 1: W&J 12, PSU-Behrend 11
Ryley McClellan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) led the Presidents offensively with four goals.
Megan DePrez (Claremont, Calif. Claremont) finished with her first hat-trick of her junior season.
Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and
Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) recorded two goals apiece for the Presidents.
Marcella Gallardo-Russell (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) added a score for W&J.
W&J went on a 4-0 run in the first quarter before Behrend scored in 15 seconds into the second quarter to close the deficit, 4-1. The Presidents also scored four goals in the third quarter to go into the final quarter with a 10-7 lead.
Weiss recorded her first win in goal during her senior season, as she made 13 saves.
Game 2: W&J: 13, Connecticut College 11
McClellan added another four-goal effort in the second game, while Anthony notched another hat-trick. Neumann and
Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice) each recorded a pair of goals for the Presidents. Gallardo-Russell and DePrez added a goal each for W&J.
Didovich scored the go-ahead goal in the first quarter and the Presidents never looked back. W&J held the lead for the remainder of the game before finishing with a narrow 13-11 win.
Weiss recorded 14 saves in goal in the game two win.
W&J returns home tomorrow Sunday, March 20 to host Utica and Grove City. The first match is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start time.
