W&J rises to No. 4 in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Region VI Rankings

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team climbed two spots in the most recent NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Regional Rankings, which were released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon.

W&J, fresh off its 18-6 victory over Saint Vincent in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals, has won 10 straight games heading into Saturday's PAC Tournament Championship match with Grove City College. The top seeded Presidents and second seeded Wolverines will meet for the second time in eight calendar days. The Presidents used a third quarter run to pull away from the Wolverines for a 17-9 win last Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams.

With an 11-4 overall record, the Presidents are ranked fourth in Region VI. W&J faced a challenging non-conference schedule, which included Kenyon (#1 in region), Capital (#3 in region) and Mount Union (#6 in region). All three of those teams join W&J in the Region VI rankings. John Carroll (#5), DePauw (#7), Wooster (#8) and St. Mary's Maryland (#9) make up the rest of the Region VI rankings.

W&J and Grove City will square off at 1 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday. The winner of the PAC Championship Tournament will receive the conference's automatic-qualifying bid to the Division III Championship. Thirty-two conferences have been granted automatic qualification (Pool A) for this year's championship. The 46-team field for this year's Division III Championship is scheduled to be announced Monday, May 9. First and second round games are scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, May 14-15.
